About Thomson Survey

The company has been providing surveying services in Northland for over 30 years.

It was originally called Von Sturmer Gilkinson and Henry Ltd, Then in 1990, the company became Thomson Gilkinson and King. Three years later the name changed to Thomson and King Ltd.

In 2002, Denis Thomson retained the Kerikeri office, which became Thomson Survey Ltd.

History

Denis grew up in Raglan. He operated his first business as a registered surveyor in Invercargill in 1985. He has extensive experience in business management, and has been a director at Thomson Survey Ltd and its preceding companies for over 30 years.

Specialty

Denis designs subdivisions and negotiates clients' needs with the local council. He has valuable experience in finding solutions that best meet the needs of the client.

Work Experience

Experience since 2008 in Northland including subdivisions, roading, legalisation, Maori land, and topographical surveys.

History

Sam grew up on a dairy farm in the Hokianga and attended Horeke and Okaihau primary, and Okaihau College. He is familiar with the wider Northland area.

Specialty

As Survey Manager, Sam keeps track of most projects throughout the office. Sam also deals with most survey enquires and provides survey estimates. Sam also specialises in Cadastral Surveys, As-builts, Landonline, E-survey, Subdivisions, Topographic Surveys, Design and Setout, Maori Land Surveys & Occupation Order Plans, GPS.

Paul Henry

Work Experience

Worked for various firms in New Zealand and Australia over the last 30 years, which included subdivisions, boundary redefinition surveys, topographical surveys and as-built surveys. Paul worked on numerous large engineering projects in the coal mines and construction industry in Australia. This consisted of the setout of buildings and other engineering structures such as conveyor belts, pulley alignment, and wash plant machinery setout.

History

Paul grew up in Kerikeri, and has been in the surveying profession since 1989. He started off with Thomson Survey as a chainman, and became a Survey Technician a few years later. Paul graduated from UNITEC in Auckland obtaining a National Diploma in Surveying in 2000. Several years later Paul went to Dunedin to further his education by obtaining a Bachelor of Surveying. After University he moved to Australia, with his wife, for several years, and worked in various coal mines in the Central Highlands in Queensland. He moved back with his family to Kerikeri early 2017 to work for Thomson Survey, and to return to the lifestyle that the Bay of Islands has to offer.

Paul designs subdivisions and Cadastral Surveys that include subdivisions, topographical Surveys and boundary redefinition surveys.

Lynley Newport

Work Experience

Lynley has over 20 years experience in the resource management policy planning and consent processing fields. Lynley has worked in both the public and private sectors, in both policy and consent processing. Lynley previously worked for Thomson Survey for seven years before moving to the public sector, and has now returned to Thomson Survey as Senior Planner, preparing planners reports and assessments of environmental effects for both subdivision and land use consent applications, and regional council consents. Lynley manages the consent process for clients and provides planning advice on a wide range of matters.

History

Lynley was born and raised in the district and has extensive knowledge of the district’s geography, its culture and its people. She obtained her graduate degree and postgraduate diploma through Waikato and Massey Universities.

Specialty

Lynley specialises in investigating proposals and what consent requirements those proposals might have, including walking people through the consent application process – focusing on the value of the end result. She provides advice on district, regional and national planning provisions and standards and how these may impact a proposal. Whilst Lynley’s work is predominantly related to subdivision applications, she also specialises in land use consent applications required under the District Plan.

Karen Yerkovich

Work Experience

Karen has 20 years draughting experience; working for private survey and engineering companies, also including six years for the local electricity generation and lines network company.

History

Karen was born and raised in Whangarei, and moved to Kerikeri in 2005. So she is very familiar with the Northland area.

Specialty

Scheme plans for proposed subdivision development, and detailed site plans.
